Cell Phones for Soldiers
We are currently participating in the Cell Phones for Soldiers drive. We are
an official drop off point for unwanted cell phones. These cell phones will be
given to soldiers overseas so they will have the ability to contact their loved
ones.

Mavis Inez Barfield Adkins, age 85, of Blountstown passed away Saturday, June
26, 2010 in Blountstown. She was a homemaker and was an avid gardener. She was
of the Pentecostal faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee
Adkins and two sisters, Louise Adkins and Betty Sexton.
She is survived by two sons, Leroy Adkins of Altha and Charles Adkins of Altha;
three daughters, Lucille Stewart and her husband, Dick of Blountstown, Susie
Adkins and her husband, Gene of Altha, and Charlene Miller and her husband,
Kenneth of North Carolina; a brother, George Barfield of Pensacola; a sister,
Daurice Castleberry of Pensacola; twenty-one grandchildren and many, many
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 28 in Adams Funeral Home
Chapel with Reverend Dewayne Tolbert officiating. Interment will follow in New
Shiloh Cemetery near Altha. The family will receive friends Sunday, June 27 at
Adams Funeral Home.

Elmedia Theresa Sumner, age 77, of Hosford, Florida passed away Sunday, June 27,
2010 in Tallahassee. She was a homemaker and was a member of Telogia Baptist
Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Audrey Von Sumner and a
grandson, Rocky Johnson.
Survivors include a son, Earnest Sumner of Hosford; four daughters, Connie
Roberts and her husband, Joe of Tallahassee; Lavon Boland and her husband, James
of Wacissa, Florida, Stella Ulam and her husband, Matt of Hosford, and Claudie
Black and her husband, Michael of Hosford; a brother, Raymond Barfield of
Medawaski, Maine; two sisters, Nora Everette of Valdosta, Georgia and Shirley
Nixon of White City; twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., ET, Tuesday, June 29, at Sumatra
Cemetery with Reverend Tommy Sumner officiating. The family will receive friends
6:00-8:00 p.m, ET Monday, June 28 at Adams Funeral Home in Bristol.

Jessica Kowalczyk Harris, age 27, of Brandon, Florida passed away Saturday, June
5, 2010 in Tampa, Florida. She was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Briana Harris of Brandon; her parents, Edward and
Sandra Kowalczyk of Brandon; two brothers, Edward John Kowalczyk, III of
Tallahassee, Florida and Matthew Benjamin Kowalczyk of Brandon; a sister, Amy
Vastine and her husband, Tim of Kempner, Texas; her grandparents, Betty Herndon
of Tallahassee and Ed and Veronica Kowalczyk of Holyoke, Massachusetts; an
uncle, John Herndon of Altamonte Springs, Florida; a niece, Hannah Kowalczyk of
Brandon; a nephew, Aiden Vastine of Kempner; and very dear cousins that she
loved very much.
Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 12 at St. Francis of
Assissi Catholic Church in Blountstown. Interment followed in Herndon Cemetery
in Clarksville. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in
Jessica’s name to foundations that are dedicated to helping others understand
and overcome the challenges Jessica faced in the final days of her life. Project

Alberta Gertrude Whitcomb, age 87, of Tallahassee passed away
Wednesday, May 5, 2010 in Tallahassee. She was a member of Calvary Tabernacle
Church of the Apostolic Way and enjoyed crocheting. She was preceded in death by
a son, Alex Durflinger and a daughter, Carol Powell.
She is survived by five sons, Bruce Durfinger and his wife, Judy and Mark
Durflinger and his wife, Rita all of Tallahassee, Jerry Durflinger and Ray
Durflinger of Indiana, and Luther Durflinger and his wife, Joyce of New Jersey.;
a daughter, Jeanette Taden of Wakulla Station, Florida; a sister, Ruby Gutherie
of Indiana; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and
great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. ET, Monday, May 10, 2010 at Bristol
Cemetery in Bristol with Reverend Clarence Grey officiating. The family will
receive friends 2:00-5:00 p.m. ET, Saturday, May 8 at Adams Funeral Home in

Lenora Byrd Larkins, age 89, of Bristol passed away Tuesday,
May 4, 2010 in Tallahassee. She was born in Wakulla County January 31, 1921 and
moved to Liberty County in 1944. She was a homemaker and a member of Sumatra
Baptist Church for thirty-two years where she taught Sunday school. She also
taught Sunday school at Lake Mystic Baptist Church in Bristol.
She is survived by two sons, J. Clark Byrd and his wife, Paulette of Tallahassee
and T. D. Whaley and his wife, Mary Ellen of Crawfordville; a daughter, Frances
Byrd Milam and her husband, Carol Dean of Tallahassee; a sister, Beatrice Carter
of Crawfordville; six grandchildren, Dennis Whaley of Key West, Brian Whaley and
his wife, Susan of Tallahassee, Ricky Milam and his wife, Wendy of Dunnellon,
Trevor Milam and his wife, Terry of Tallahassee, Kevin Byrd and his wife, Lisa
of Tallahassee, Stephanie Byrd Griesheimer and her husband, Donald of
Tallahassee; ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. EDT, Friday, May 7, 2010 at Lake Mystic
Baptist Church in Bristol. Interment will follow in Lake Mystic Cemetery. In

Hazel Virgie Tanton, age 83, of Bristol passed away Monday,
May 3, 2010 at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of Bristol and was a member of Bristol Assembly of
God Church. She was owner of Tanton’s Personal Home Care. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Albert Tanton; her parents, Frank and Emma Hill Phillips;
a brother, Mac Phillips; and sisters, Gertie Owens, Vinnie McMillan, Thelma
Morgan, Nolie Peddie, and Trudy McDowell.
She is survived by two sons, Dennis Tanton of Cypress and Charles Hill of
Bristol; three daughters, Debra Schwendeman, Barbara McDaniel, and Phyllis
Swearingen, all of Bristol; fifteen grandchildren; forty-two
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. ET, Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Bristol
Assembly of God Church. Interment will follow in Rock Bluff Cemetery. The family
will receive friends 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. ET, Tuesday, May 4 at Adams Funeral Home
in Bristol.

Merle Christopher “Chris” Webb, age 47, of Bonifay and
formerly of Blountstown, passed away Monday, April 26, 2010 in Panama City. He
was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anita Webb and a brother,
George Webb, Jr.
Survivors include a son, Brandon Christopher Gunn Webb of Panama City; two
daughters, Rachael Ann Webb and Jessica Noel Webb all of Panama City; three
brothers, Kevin Webb of Blountstown, Carl Webb and Jeff Webb of Panama City; a
sister Rae Ann Webb of Jonesville, Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2010 in the Adams
Funeral Home Chapel in Blountstown. Interment will follow in Pine Memorial

Mary Ellen Land, age 61, of Clarksville, passed away
Wednesday, April 28, 2010 in Blountstown. She was a homemaker and a member of
Blountstown Revival Tabernacle Church and was a veteran serving in the U. S. Air
Force. She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Corene Harris Land
and a sister, Margie Guy.
She is survived by two sons, Marcus Land and Klayton Lamberton and his wife
Angela, all of Clarksville; a daughter, Kristolee Lamberton of Altha; two
brothers, Doyle and Clyde Land of Orange Hill, Florida; three sisters, Patricia
Land of Sneads, Florida, Tina Terachak of Southport, Florida, and Judy Wilson of
Sarasota, Florida; grandchildren, Brittany and Alexis Duke, Emerald and Kayland
Livingston, Connor and Logan Andrews, Clayton and Terra Lamberton, Arthur and
Shannon Goodwin, Miranda Coxwell, and Regan and Gavin Vasbinder.

Charles Elmer “Tommy” Barnes, age 64, of Altha passed away Friday, April 9,
2010
at his home. Tommy was a lifelong resident of Calhoun County and was a logger
for Green Logging. He was a veteran who served in the U. S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; three sons, Bill Barnes of Sneads, Florida,
Tommy Ray Barnes of Port St. Joe, Florida and Joseph Davis Barnes of MacClenny,
Florida; a daughter, Teresa Lanham of Altha; a brother, Greg Barnes of Guston,
Kentucky; a sister, Mary Alice Harrison of Georgia; ten grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 11, 2010 in the Chapel of
Adams Funeral Home with Reverend Ivan Nissley officiating. Interment will follow
in Bailey Cemetery near Clarksville with full military honors. The family will

Barbara Singletary, of Bristol passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010 at her
home. Barbara was born in Florala, Alabama and had lived in Liberty County for
32 years. She was retired executive secretary for the Liberty County School
Superintendant where she worked for twenty-six years. She was a member of Lake
Mystic Baptist Church where she was active in Choir, Children’s Church, and
Women’s Missionary Union. She was preceded in death by her father, Clinton Jones
and a brother, Keith Jones.
She is survived by her husband, Sammy of Bristol; a son, Jason and his wife,
Michelle of Hosford; a daughter, Dana Burns and her husband, Bruce of Bristol;
her mother, Opal Jones of Thomasville, Georgia; a brother, Wayne Jones and his
wife, Valerie of California, a sister, Rendie Hepburn and her husband, Gary of
Ochlocknee, Georgia; five grandsons, Bailey and Tucker Singletary, and Keith,
Charlie, and Jake Burns; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. ET, Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Lake
Mystic Baptist Church in Bristol with Reverend Jeff Gardner and Dr. Rich
Elligson officiating. Interment will follow in Lake Mystic Cemetery. The family
